- חָסַדII (b. h.; cmp. חסר, חסף); Pi. חִסֵּד, חִשֵּׂד (to scrape off, (cmp. גדף, גרף) to jeer, scoff at, to shame. Ruth R. to IV, 8 שחִסְּדָן ברבים (or שחֲסָדָן; ed. Wil. שחשדן) he scoffed at them publicly (speaking ironically, with ref. to 2 Chr. 13:8); Y.Yeb.XVII, beg.15c שחִישֵּׂדוכ׳ he jeered at Jeroboam; Gen. R. s. 65; ib. s. 73 שחּסדם ed. Wil. (oth. שחש׳); Lev. R. s. 33; Midr. Sam. ch. 18 שחִיסְּדָן; Yalk. Kings 205 ומְחַשֵּׂד.Ex. R. s. 30 (ref. to Ex. 2:14) שחִיסְּדוּוכ׳ when Dathan and Abiram sneered at him. Ib. בזה שחִיסַּדְתֶּם אותווכ׳ with the very word (שופט) with which you sneered at him, I shall give him the rulership (משפטים). Pesik. R. s. 42 מְחַסְּדִים את שרה (not מחסרו׳) jeered at Sarah; a. e.V. חִיסּוּד.
